We here at Umbrella Security Services will explore in this blog the London boroughs with the highest amount of crime per 1000 people. All statistics span from March 2021-March 2022 and have been taken from the Met Police.
1) Westminster- 252.60 crimes per/1000 people
A well-known tourist area, Westminster is home to many iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, the most frequent crime committed within this area is, unsurprisingly, theft. Thieves and pickpockets flock here to target the tourists who are busy soaking in the sights London has to offer.
2) Kensington and Chelsea- 133.11 crimes per/1000 people
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s relatively high crime rate may come as a surprise to some, given its reputation as an affluent area. Its riches, on the other hand, may be contributing to the problem, as it makes the location extremely appealing to criminals. Theft and burglary are the most commonly reported crimes in Kensington and Chelsea, so if you live or work in this borough, having the correct protection in place is imperative.
3) Camden- 130.60 crimes per/1000 people
Another famous tourist area in central London with attractions that include the London Zoo and Camden market. This area also has a fairly dense residential population. The most common crime committed here is theft.
4) Fulham and Hammersmith- 125.6 crimes per/1000 people
Chelsea, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers are the three professional football clubs that call this area home. Hammersmith and Fulham is a small borough, however, it does have a high population density, with an estimated population of 183, 544 people. Despite its modest size, Hammersmith and Fulham has a rather high crime rate with theft and violence against the person being the most frequent crimes committed.
5) Hackney- 122.43 crimes per/1000 people
Known for its abundant green spaces and recent gentrification, Hackney played host to the 2012 Olympics, and is popular with residents and tourists alike. Despite this, there is still a high number of crimes being committed in this area, with the most common being theft and violence against the person.
